This was my 3rd cosplay that includes some sort of custom belt pouches. I was fairly happy with the results of the earlier cosplays, but I really wanted to make these simple to assemble, more robust, and have a basic design that I could adjust for future projects.
Importing the Model
For this demo, I will be using the Brotherhood of Steel Distress Pulser from Fallout 4. I’m expecting the reader to have a basic understanding of Autodesk 3DS Max. (everything I’m doing is definitely beginner level!) I’m also assuming the reader has set up their Max for metric units of measure, but it should work fine if set to inches too. The model & maps were exported using the software called Noesisv, version 4172. Continue reading Converting Video Game Models for Prop Making in 3DS MAX, Part 1
I created my XCOM Body Armor for MomoCon 2015. The Body Armor is the base armor in XCOM: Enemy Unknown by Firaxis Games. You can find out more about the various armor types in XCOM: Enemy Unknown on the Wikia site.
This year, Robin & I decided to make Furiosa and Max costumes from Mad Max Fury Road. Most of my gear was available online. Leathers from South Beach Leather, shirt and boots from Amazon, bracelet from Etsy, and the South African tactical vest from eBay. The only thing I couldn’t buy was the shoulder plate. This my costume is of a Ranger of the Order from the video game Metro 2033. The game is set in the post apocalyptic Moscow Metro, 20 years after a nuclear apocalypse, and is based on the novel of the same name.
The focus of this costume is essentially the helmet with the body armor as a secondary focus. Continue reading Metro 2033 Costume
This costume will be made from 3D printed pieces, Worbla, EVA foam, and fabric components. Right now I’m planning the helmet, air tank, and booster jet to be 3D printed. The booster jet cover will be made from real fabric. The shoulderpads & kneepad will be Worbla, and the chest armor will be EVA foam. I’ll decide on the rest of the bits as I get to them.
